Blinkers Stopped 300d

Hey, I just bought a 1982 300D turbo a few weeks ago, and the blinkers just stopped working. I read some of the other threads but im confused because my hazards are working. I tried flipping the hazards switch on and off a million times like some people have suggested but it doesn't seem to help. Im not sure if its relevant but my intermittent wipers and wiper park flaked out just a few weeks ago also. If anyone has some Ideas I would appreciate some advice on what to check. Thanks

Perhaps, it's just low on blinker fluid..... The hazard lights, have a seperate reservoir for the fluid so it's reasonable to suspect it's just low on blinker fluid.....

Cant find blinker fluid on fast lane!!!! LOL
Given that many functions associated with the blinker stalk have failed, I would be looking at the loom and connector for a problem. These sorts of electrical failures are a PITA !!! You can spend days trying to find the problem and then it turns out to be so simple. 10 pound hammers do not help!!

Not sure if this will help, but when I bought my 84 300SD it wouldn't park the wipers correctly. I was going to replace the motor. Got lazy and didn't do anything. Once winter (yes, we do call it that here in SoCal) rolled around and the wipers got some constant use, the park function returned. I think there's a contact in the motor that needs to be cleaned for it to be 100%, but it works consistently now, and I try to use them often enough to keep it that way.

As for the blinkers, Brian is referring to the fact that Fuse #12 applies power to the Power Window Relay which feeds back to the fuse panel to power the windows. The same fuse supplies voltage for the blinkers when the ignition is turned on. If windows work then you know the fuse is good. Your hazard lights work which means the turn signal flasher is good. Hazard lights are powered by a different fuse and it bypasses the stalk switches. If the windows work, then the turn signal switch or the connector is suspect. You can do a continuity check between terminal 49a of the flasher relay to ground to test the turn signal switches. When the turn signal is engaged either left or right, you should basically see a short (three bulbs in parallel), and you'll see an open when centered.

C106 is the connector number. It's a 14 pin connector located to the left of the brake pedal support. You can test the turn signal at that connector as well by checking continuity between pins 6 and 7 (left turn engaged) and 7 and 8 (right turn). Inspect all the contacts on both sides, and put it together and pull it apart a few times before leaving it together for good. This connector is also for the wipers so it may cure everything.

What John said. When mine go out, my windows, and a few of my gauges, not to mention my ac, go out. That's why I always make sure those spare fuse holder holes are holding spare fuses. Even if it looks good, it's probably about to crumble. Oh, yeah, mine wife's is an 81 300D, so yours may not be the same.

There should be a blinker relay forward and to the left of the shifter under the console, its a little black plastic box. Unfortunately I dont know if its possible to check it before spending the $45 bucks to replace it.

That is where it is on mine. Just ahead of the shifter mount when you remove the zebrano trim. It is a tight fit. It barely fits through the gap. I removed mine, took it apart and cleaned the contacts. About 2 months later it started malfunctioning again. I just bought a new one (here). Problem solved.

On some of the them (older ones) the flasher relay is associated with the hazard switch. I'm not sure when they changed?

I believe they changed in 80 or 81, his car should have the small flasher (no relay included). The one in my 85 died while I was on a road trip in Ca. there happened to be an MB shop near by and the indy there clued me in to the relay under the console, problem solved. nice to know you can take them apart, I'll give it a shot on a defunked one.
