87 300SDL wheel bearing replacement question

Hi,
trying to replace the wheel bearings on my 87 300 SDL. I took the outer wheel bearing off, and then i took the rotor off as well to get to the rear bearing. Now the question I have is how to get the inner bearing out, and also how to put the new bearing covers(Seals) on. Do I just pound everything out and then pound the new seals in?

There was a much earlier post that said he had used PVC pipe to do the actual driving in.

Essentially, yes! But a reasonably careful "pounding" would be advised!

I use a long punch and more of a tapping, moving the punch tip around the
circle of the bearing race.

Installation: if you can, freeze the bearing races for 15 to 30 minutes.
Tap in gently.

Take as large a socket as will fit in the hub and install it upside down on an extension bar. The shoulder of the socket will provide enough contact on the race to allow you to drive it out.
