Factory Refridge in a 123?
4 Attachment(s)
According to this eloquent craigslister.....The w123 had a fridge option.
http://easternshore.craigslist.org/cto/1516484576.html 1980 Mercedes 300 SD Diesel - $1500 (Ocean City) Date: 2009-12-18, 6:58PM EST Reply to: sale-u5pvz-1516484576@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] 1980 Mercedes 300SD $1500 or best offer. Engine and transmission run and shift smoothly. Miles unknown. factory installed refridgerator works and is very rare. New glow plugs, belts and alternator. Fuel lines and injector lines have been converted to biodiesel friendly hoses. Car does not like to shut off, cut off switch needs servicing or replacment. Car will not start needs a new starter switch, went up about a month ago(cheap fix). Rust on underbody. Interior in good condition. Would make a great parts car or a biodiesel canidate with some tlc. Good wheels and tires. Surf racks included. Great gas mileage 35mpg highway. Looking for a good home for this unstoppable car. Email with any questions. |

Oh, I don't know about the fridge option, but I've never heard of it in a W116. |
Can anyone verify the factory frig claim?
|
My Mistake...Is that a W116?
Yes I find the posting Hilarious to say the least....The car is dark, light, wet, dry, warm, cold and just perfect for your next trip to hell. :) Its funny how many of these posts mention....."You could convert it to run biodiesel" ...Wow, that sounds so complicated. Will it run on BioDiesel? <shocked look> |
That is not a factory option.

If someone has the $$$, then the dealer can surely accommodate in one form or another. |
Hey if some idiot buys a car that runs well but wont start good luck to the seller
"a fool & his money are soon parted" It provides entertainment for us as well. I can only see an air con line under the hood, maybe it an ice box some one has made for between the seats. Maybe we need a thread on here for 'the biggest porkies told in a car add' I saw on on ebay back a while; 300D, 600,000 miles, barely run in! or 'no rust visible' aka ( we have hidden it)!!?? Some dont know the difference between 'rust free' and 'free rust' |
How do people know it is not a factory option>

OTOH, considering that Mercedes wouldn't even put cup holders in these cars, a front-mounted refrigerator seems unlikely as a factory option. Even the late-model cars with a wine cooler are trunk-mounted. Maybe it was added by a dealer as a sales incentive or at customer request? |
Kerry,
Have a close look at the pic, its home made ! If you are still not convinced, get the VIN off the guy & check on the Russian site. You would also need extra plumbing for the lower temp refrigerant. The semi conductor refrigerant units were not around in 1980. If a refrigerator option was on offer, we would have seen it down here. |
That thing looks like something you'd find mounted in the back seat of a W126 used by a dignitary or VIP.

600s (made until '81) and 123 Langs (made until '85) are the only MBs I can deduce that would have a fridge custom-installed due to a client's request.
That thing in the 116 looks cheesy too, IMO. |
Yeah. Look at the shifter surround, its been pushed flat. Thats not a factory installed part, probably not dealer installed either....
