these list are fraught with "but what about..."
But still, no Audi quattro turbo coupe? Multiple World Rally champ, thrice-straight Pike's Peak hillclimb winner, etc???

In what quantities were these top ten cars produced? I bet the Mercedes beats all of them put together, especially if you count all of the other models and years that used the 617.95 engine.

One reason to include the Buick/Pontiac/Olds/Corvair is that GM turbo'd those cars before any of those foreign competitors.

I am pleased the Subaru EA82T did not make that list, a very rushed engine design and very few made it past 150k, if they did someone spent a grand or better on new heads at some point.
The WRX should be on their, though, since it's a compact car with AWD and 230hp in it's first iteration, 300+ for all the STi versions. Good torque too, but the 2.5 did have it's head gasket issues at first as well. So successful at WRC that they effectively changed the rules to ban it. Gotta love that Turbo Brick though- |

It's funny that the picture shows a Euro model (300SD was a USA/Canada model only).

Ha. Noticed that too. That's probably a one of the gasser W116 models.
