Lost a part, and don't know what it is

I completed some good PM on the SD this morning.

1) cleaned tank strainer and fuel level sender
2) replaced all rubber fuel hoses and clamps
3) new fuel filters (2)
4) 5 new GPs and holes reamed
5) new block heater cord
6) oil change
7) valve cover gasket

I was going to tackle the oil pan gasket and turbo drain seals/checkvalve but hey....its the playoffs!

I was able to loose the clip on the throttle linkage where the main shaft comes from the firewall out to the assembly on top of the valve cover. It is that small circular clip that you push in, then down to seat it.

What is it called, and what can I use from maybe a local hardware store till i can get the proper part in the mail? Thank you in advance.

Zip tie.

You could probably just drive without anything on there, but if you will sleep better, put a zip tie on the shaft.

I doesn't appear to me that the clip in all that critical. The dimensions of the rod are such that it won't likely just fall out.

Fairly common part, but you'd be best to go to a junkyard to find one, or maybe the "Help" parts section at Autozone. Ford used these same clips to hold the automatic transmission kickdown rod on the throttle linkage on V8 carbureted engines.

Drive it to your local Napa. Ask the person behind the counter to take a look at it. Generally )At least here 99.9% of the time they have odds and ends like this, if not they can point you in the right direction to get one locally.

If it is the circlip that you lost then there are a number of those around. I lost one on the throttle shaft when I adjusted the valve. I picked one on top of the valve cover and use that on the shaft. The one on the valve cover is in upright position and it is unlikely the assembly is going to pop out. I put a wire round it and is good to go. I will replace it when I go to the JY next time.

Yep... That is what he is talking about. Those little suckers go flying if you do not put your finger on it when pulling or installilng.

That should be pretty easy to find locally. You could just "safety wire" it temporarily.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am off to town to see what I can find.

But, I cannot drive the car like some have mentioned. When I insert that shaft into the hole without that clip as soon as i press and release the throttle that pin falls out.

Maybe I am missing something else from the linkage assy?
