Where to find my VIN number
I recently put my '83 240D on the road, and onto an insurance policy. The VIN that I gave them turns out to be an exculsive M-Benz VIN that the company uses internally to determine body, chassis, etc.
Now, I've been looking to find the real VIN, and I can't seem to find it. I've looked along the dash, on both door pillars, under the hood (the small metal plate with the company VIN is there, but not the real one). Where on earth can I find it? |

The "real VIN" is the number on the drives side windshield pillar, visible through the windshield.

There is also a plate on the body inside the driver's door that had the VIN.

Open the hood and look on the firewall just above the valve cover. It is stamped in the sheetmetal.

So wait what number did you give them? Was it the chassis ID?
Go to the driver's side and look through the windshield. You should see a piece of metal underneath of the windshield sticking out that will have text written on it starting with WDB. It is about mid way between the bottom and the top of the windshield on the pillar.
