Anyone ever have a run in with a local, near identical car as yours?
Funny story, at least to me ()
Today, while out grocery shopping, my girlfriend happened to notice another smoked silver W124 two spots over from me as I parked. Cool! We take a peek, and it's a 300D 2.5 (tan interior, unlike my red). As we walk into the store, we pass an elderly lady. Nah, it couldn't be, could it? We paused to watch as she meandered over to the passenger side of my car. At first, I figured she was going for the car next to me. Of course, I'm still curious, so we wait a little longer... At some point, after trying to open my car with her key, she must have noticed the red interior () and continued to her car. We couldn't help but smile. I would have said something were I closer. Small world, eh?

I've yet to see another Benz in my color, much less the same body style and color.
Maganese Brown 84 300TD. Another Benz guy I know in town mentioned it was "sit around brown" as it wasn't a popular seller in the day... I happen to like the color. At least in the un-faded parts

We have three of the same car, three of our W126's are the same color, two with the same color interior. Silver-Blue metallic. Two of them (parts car and my dad's '82SD) have blue interiors, mine, is a Mushroom interior. All three cars were built the same year....and creepily enough, my car and the parts car were built the SAME DAY. Their VIN's are only 473 cars apart! Both have a build date of April 15th, 1982

Cool pictures! I managed to see a couple orient red 240D's on my trips between MA and MD, before I sold the car. I'd always wave
Most of the smoked silver W124's have been the tan interior. I'm not sure about pinstriping (mine has what I would assume to be medium red pinstripes). I'm sure they're out there, though!

My two W123s are almost the same color, my kids tend to get in the wrong car on a regular basis.

I love the smoke silver color for the simple reason that it looks good even when the car is really dirty.

Sometimes I wonder about the many hands who put these cars together. Who are they and where are they now? It got me thinking after I saw the movie Gran Turino with Clint Eastwood. There was a line in the movie that stuck around with me. It went something like, "I put the steering wheel column in this car back in the 70s". I wonder if any of the workers in Sindleferden or Stuttgart drive their old that they created. Same for the engineers that crafted the car.

Parked next to a twin 300D in a hospital parking lot in Tulsa one day. He passed us flying by on the way home later that day. Both are light ivory exterior with MB-Tex Java interiors. Our's is a lot nicer on the inside, but it has had some serious upgrading from the best of the parts cars. Don't know the owner of the twin or where they live!?!

There are actually several W123's around that look very similar to my car. There's ONE that is exactly the same. Same color, model, body, and has hubcaps, just like my 240D. It's a twin car, and I always see it around the same time of day with an old woman driving. (must be coming back from bingo ) It's in mint condition, and I wish I could "run into her" at the store or something and talk to her about it.
On another note, I also see a 560SEL AMG around that is all white, and has white AMG Penta's. An old woman also drives this car...which leads me to believe it's the real deal! Here's a pic I tried to get before she took off:

There used to be a Manila Beige 300D turbo diesel at the school I went to a few years back. Female driver never paid attention, even if I tried to park next to hers. Oh well.
However, at church there is always an early 190E 2.3 in Manila Beige. Elderly couple always drives it. Sometimes I park next to it, and they always look back at mine. Sometimes I bring the 190E (diamond blue) and when I did, I saw them pointing towards my car as we were waiting in line to go out of the parking lot. At one point my mother drove her 300TE, I drove my 300D and the elderly couple drove their 190E. There was also another 190E parked nearby.

I've seen 2 nice petrol green 300Ds during my travels around town. The owner of one just stared at mine while I passed and waved, the other owner held a small conversation with me at a stoplight, remarking on my good taste in cars.
Not quite an engineer or a factory worker, but Bruno Sacco designed the W126 and drives a SEC.

at the local parts store on Sunday
When I drove in, I noticed another silver w126. There wasn't a parking spot next to it, I went inside and found the owner. We inspected each other's car and I turned him onto this forum. His was a 380SEL though with a Maroon interior.
