380 se axle in a 300sd

Can I install a pass side axle from a 1984 380se in my 1984 300sd? They look exactly alike except the joint closest to the differential looks a little bigger. But length and splines looks alike. Has anyone tried this swap?

Yes it will fit your SD although, you may want to remove the dampener weights. They are not needed with the SD's limited top speed.

Yeah, they are the same unit aside from the weights, which are easy to remove. The weights don't work on the diesels very well because the fuel lines come down from the tank right by the passenger side axle....we had to take them off when we installed 500SEL axles on my dad's 300SD.

Must be that only the beefy engined cars had them then. The assembly we installed was from a Euro 500SEL....just a *bit* more powerful than a US 380.....
