82 82 300DT no faster than 75, water leak, turbo works, clear coat?

I just got this car.

Are the parts same as for 85 300DT?

It won't go faster than 75, otherwise drives ok. All the others I've driven would easily go faster... Engine sounds smooth and is not noisy.

Is the turbo supposed to make a quiet whistling sound. I don't hear anything. Could that mean the turbo is not connected or functional; the car is more responsive and quieter than a non turbo I've driven in the past.

There is a leak. Water ends up dripping into the trunk (close to the area that's underneath the rear window close the far left and right but not all the way) when it's raining. It seems to be happening more when the car is driven in the rain as opposed to just being parked.

Someone rubbed hands on the paint and there was a gray residue left on his hands. He said a buff (detail) would not improve the paint because the clear coat is gone. Other say that a buff would make it look better. I seem to see that some clear coat is there i.e. it's somewhat shiny.

Try the steps listed here (or search this archive for banjo bolt): http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedesaldaboostsystemservi.htm

Try some polish on the paint (I don't know if it will make a diference without CC.

Is this related to turbo or just general performance

Check to make sure your accelerator linkage is completely opening the rack. There are rubber components in the linkage that can wear out.

Listen dear poster, you do NOT have an 82 300DT. No such thing. Go take a look at the badge on the trunk and report back......

Been letting allot of this slide lately, and sadly there has been a lot of occurrences.
I'm back up on that wall for the sake of terminological correctness.......

Fuel related things that can slow your Car; Plugged Filters (Change Filters), Plugged Fuel tank Screen (if you have 1/2 Tank of Fuel swap the Fuel Inlet Hose With the Fuel return hose. If things improve you Tank Screen may be restricted), Fuel Tank Vent restricted (do not do this on a full tank; Drive with the Fuel Fill Capp off so it acts as a temp vent for your Fuel Tank.)

Have someone push the Accelaretor Pedal all the way down while you look to see if the Throttle arm on the Fuel Injectin Pump goes all the way and touches the Stop Bolt (Full Load Screw). If not look at the Bell Crank on the Fire Wall to see if the Bushing has gone bad or the rubber part has gone bad.
If the Bell Crank is Ok adjust you linkage as per the FSM.
