w201 1987 190d Headlight Questions

Hi, I've done a search already but am a little confused by the wealth of information. My new to me 87 190d could definitely use a headlight upgrade. Im not sure if they are sealed beam or not however, and even if I can just replace the bulbs, the outer lens of the headlights are kind of fogged-over so Im not sure how much that affects the light output. Im aware of a Euro headlight upgrade but im not sure if its worth the cost, and there seems to be a lot of them that are cheap knockoffs that may or may not work so well. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks, Ben R.

On the '87 the headlamp is not a sealed-beam, the bulb is replaceable. The fogged-over part is the plastic fog-light lense, referred to here and on ebay as a "headlight door", easily replaceable.

Euro light upgrades (real Euro lights) are a significant upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. So, what is the significant upgrade that the Euro headlights offer as opposed to say, a quality bulb replacement and maybe new headlight doors?

Quality lamps can't make up for poorly designed optics. You might be able to make the beam patter brighter, but it will still be a bad beam pattern.

Euro lights are worth every penny IMHOP.

Especially on these mid 80's MB's.

You will love them

expensive but there are so many reasons to get them

H4 bulbs
better reflector design
clear lenses in all glass
they make the car look 4-5 years newer
etc etc.
