Air Cleaner Buzz averted

My car has been quiet for so long I got spoiled. Over the past 2 weeks the "Air Cleaner Buzz" found its way back. The first time it was a cracked mount. So, I replaced the mount. The second time I had to replace the little rubber mounts. Then the housing developed a crack in the side where it was contacting the throttle bracket. Probably from the bad little rubber mounts.

So, I took the housing off again to try and figure out where in the hell the noise is coming from. After I pulled the air cleaner, I realized that it could be the cracked housing that was the root of the problem. So, I drilled holes on each end of the crack and put it back on the car. ARGHHH!!! The stupid "Buzz" was still there. Off it comes again and I realized that plastic lid on top of the PCV can was loose. I tapped the little tabs down, put it all back together and it's fixed. Now I just have to get that stupid crack welded.

you could put some kind of open air element on the intake.I recommend a paper element filter or dont do it at all.www.bobistheoilguy.com. vent the tube off the valve cover into space and plug or put a breather on the oil drain tube to the oil pan.do a milage comparison before and after.also do a dyno before and after.post the results here..........never hurts to ask?

Mount

I have replaced the mount on my wife's 84 SD once a long while ago, many years actually, when it cracked and broke. When it went bad that time I cut a piece of 1/8 inch steel with a plasma cutter, and mig welded the spots that I considered weak. I didn't take pics, as that was before I found this group. I remember making a plateand using bits of steel Mig welded over the crack spots. I'd say that might be 8 or 10 years ago, and all is well, still. I think I did the rubber bits once again, since then. The thin sheet metal was inadequate for decades of vibration.
