No kick down

Hi,my '82 300TD seems to shift great, at the right points (I think), but going up a hill, mash the pedal and it doesn't seem to shift down. are there some obvious things to look at for 'no kick down'? I've searched several bowden cable threads, but still not clear how the kick down works, and how to trouble shoot.

thanks, chuck

I'd start with making sure that my throttle linkages were properly adjusted, then move on to the Bowden.....

Also check the connections and operation of the kickdown switch behind the pedal. Get under the car and check the wire around the transmission. On mine, the wire had gotten brittle and broke. I believe one of the fuses has the kickdown on it also. Might want to check that.

The switch is behind the go pedal and the actual solenoid is mounted on the passenger side of the trans.

Mine was over 1/2" from the stop when I bought the car.

I spent 1 year trying to figure out why I kept blowing fuse #14 ?? whenever I floored the go pedal. I think it was fuse #14. The problem was that the wire going to the transmission was rubbing on the trans and shorting every time I mashed the go pedal. So I second the check the wire or the kick down switch could be defective.

I had exactly the same issue on my 82, the fuse also took out the tach and the monovalve whever it blow.

Yea, it was #14 now that you mention it. Mine kept blowing until I fixed the kickdown wire where it crosses under the transmission. I could always tell when it was blown because it took out the horn and the glow plug indicator.

resolved! i pulled the carpet and there was about cup of dirt and crap jamming up the pedal (car is pretty new to me), causing it to not even reach the switch. once cleaned - the pedal reaches the switch and the kick down works great. thanks for the help.
