New Glow Plugs

Hello again, I have yet another problem with my car, as I've come to expect it now.

I changed the glowplugs on my car yesterday, which was not as difficult as I thought it would be. Wire them up, and the car started fantastically (Better than ever). Drove it around, the car was great to have running again after replacing a whole bunch of stuff.

However, this morning, I went to start the car, and the glowplug light did not come on. I was immediately concerned. I checked the wiring, which was fine, I checked the connections, the battery, turned the key many times, but no light.

I thought that maybe, one or two of the connections was backwards and worked to reconnect everything. This did not work. When I rewired a glowplug backwards, every time the cylinder with the backwards connection turned over (when I was cranking the engine), it made a snapping sound, which was bad. However, I did get the glowplug light on when the connection(s) were backwards. After about 2 hours of re-rewiring, I got it back to normal. It cranks, no snapping, but no glowplug light, and it doesn't start.

What did I do wrong.

Check the GP relay and check the strip fuse in the GP relay.

Since you said "I thought that maybe, one or two of the connections was backwards and worked to reconnect everything."
I am guessing that you have the older Loop/Filiment type Glow Plugs. Otherwise I do not see what could get connected backwards.

If you do not put your year and model in your signature you will need to post that info each time you start a thread; or the answer you get may not match your question.

um... snapping sound? ... wtf?
I'm gonna need more info on this one.

What exactly is a GP relay?

GP = Glow Plug

its the black box located on the driver side front fender/wheelwell. If you take it apart there is a strip-type fuse on the top of it that can burn through if you wire it up wrong, or just from old age sometimes. You should be able to trace the glow plug wires back to the relay box.

Rule #1
You might want to tell us what type of car this is on. Year and model please..... ;)

Glow plug relay is new, mechanic had an extra, and I swapped it. Problem not solved.

Actually, with some investigating, I think I know the problem.

The ground wire (after the fourth cylinder) looks old and frayed. I moved it around a bit, and there was a bit of sparking, so the connection looks bad.

Where can I find a proper ground wire, because I tried splitting it, and I failed.
