Engine Mount Heat Shields

Does anyone have an engine mount heat shield not installed?

I would like to know the linear length, the length of the metal, including the bends, the width, the angle of the bends, the thickness of the metal, and the diameter of the hole in the center.

I am looking to see what it would cost to make some. Used ones are hard to find and new ones cost way too much for what they are, in my opinion.

Thanks!

4-6/8" x 3-1/8"

3 radii of concentric circles in descending order from the top:

1-3/8"

1-1/8"

1/2" --------this one is the hole for the bolt

depth from first, largest circle to next inner circle is ~1/4"

these dimensions are from a 1984 w201 before they changed the engine mounts, nearly identical

The 22 gauge steel sheet metal or .028 inches thick.

Also there is a slight bend up on the long axis(4 6/8) starting at 3 7/16 inches.

Chad has one in a box for a 603 motor mount . Ask him (in a nice way) to prepare you a CAD of it. Also, he can probably photograph it for you.

Is it the same as the 617?

Thanks!

That is the first time I have even seen one, except in drawings.

Well, that scraps my idea. The drawing just looked like a flat piece of steel, with two angle bends and a hole for the lower mount bolt to pass through.

I bet you could still make it with minimal effort. The bends will come to pass as you work the fit. You can probably make the middle profile with a ball-peon hammer, then drills hole. I don't think the bends are anything of consequence.

Do you have a pic from a shop manual or similar showing orientation? I honestly don't recall exactly what direction they oriented when installed...

Those don`t seem all that hard to find in your local neighborhood PNP. I see them all the time still attached to the vehicle of course.
I might even have a couple some where in my treasure pile of stuff. see what I can come up with.

not sure if there is a right and left though. any one know?

If one off of a 300SD would work for you, I know I have a pair on my parts car out in the garage that could be unbolted with minimal trouble, and would likely fit in one of the small USPS boxes.

From what I have seen, they oriented to cover the rubber, kind of like a gable roof on a house.
