Help - Transmission / 300SDL

Here's what happened. Car ran fine yesterday. Started up fine tonight, temp somewhere around 35F, car started fine, and backed out of a steep driveway without a problem. Into forward, and again, short uphill climb, and again, no problem. Drove about 1/2 mile to a stop sign, stopped and then pulled out.

After about 10 feet, a pop (not really loud enough for a bang) and no forward gear. Put it into reverse and it worked. Back into drive and nothing. I backed out of the middle of the street and a few hundred feet up the side road.

Just to make sure, drive again, and it seemed like it might try, but nothing. Decided to try adding a quart of transmission fluid. One quart later, still nothing.
Backed the half mile back to GF's house and parked it. Too dark and cold for a better look, but no apparent fluid on the road anywhere.

Comments and suggestions really appreciated. Once again, there was a pop, then no forward gears. Reverse seems fine. There is a slight, very slight occasional grab attempt, but nothing in drive.

HELP !!
Thanks.....

B2 piston or band. Same thing happened to me, a bang then no more forward gears. Check your B2 piston first. If it is not broken, then most likely its your band. I had pieces of the band in my pan.

That is what happened to po of my car went to work one day everything fine.(1.5 mile) Went to leave that night nothing. Seems funny now but he backed home, I was the guy in front or behind depending on perspective with the 4 ways on as he putted to his house.
It wound up needing a new tranny.
