Ok, So, I get my car back from the shop, everything is great, I can now get the car started any time i need to without hesitation. the problem is, when I looked under the hood to see where I was leaking oil from, I noticed that this little bugger was sitting in there Disconnected and looks like it Is leaking Diesel, I know the pre filter connected to this thing, as that's the same clamp I checked to make sure was tight and secure and not sucking air. It's Currently un plugged and open to the air... any ideas on what it is, why it was bypassed?

Yeah

They just ran the Fuel Feed Rubber Hose (on Incoming Line from the Fuel Tank)
Directly to the Lift Pump...Bypassing the "Fuel Thermostat" (Heater).

Howeveah, your Primary Fuel filter should still be InLine between the Tank Line
and the Lift Pump.

There's an O-Ring inside the front of the Fuel Thermostat, secured by a "C" clip
that starts seeping Diesel after years.
(No big deal to replace, unless you're a shop without the O-ring
[Or the Knowledge where to get one]...)

would this thermostat leak Fuel? the whole left side is soaked in a fine mist of diesel.

The fuel thermostat should not leak fuel if it is disconnected, but that may be why its disconnected.the little bit that it held when they bypassed it shouldnt have made much of a mess. That is right above the engine mount and fuel will deteriorate the mount if its all over the mount clean it off the best you can and check it after your next drive to be sure fuel is not leaking on it from somewhere else. Don
