draining tranny fluid on 1984 300DT

when you take the drain plug out of the transmission on a 1984 300DT, approximately how many quarts drains out? I'm trying to figure out
approximately how much to add after pulling the drain plug.

Measure how much comes out. Put a little less in, run the car through the gears, check level and add amount needed.

^ Agreed. Then add five quarts, check and add more as necessary.
