SLS Question on an older Wagon

There's a early 80's wagon sitting in someones yard near by my house. it's been sitting long enough to accumulate a wonderful layer of it's natural surroundings. and I am thinking about offering to buy it. right now it's rear end is sitting low, can this happen from just sitting?

Yes over time the pressure will lower in the system resulting and a low rear end. However if the rear end doesn't come up after running for a bit then you'll have some issues to take care of.

The one on my euro wagon was collapsed because it had been sitting for two years. Getting her started was enough to pump her up and keep her that way.

As others have stated the SLS can loose pressure when sitting, for a long time. Though I'd venture a guess that the valve will still leak, and the rear will sag over night even after you start driving it, but you never know. Keep us posted.

Sagging rear end is a good negotiating point.

i would think it should never sag...i thought the rear springs supported the rear end fully... and the SLS was just to maintain correct rear end height AFTER you load the rear end with a ton of crap...if the wagon is just sitting empty should it not be at normal height just with the springs?

I've loaded my rear with like probably 1000 pounds of steel pipe and such...the end was bottomed out as the springs were now over loaded. as soon as i started the engine the rear popped back up to normal height.

The SLS and springs share all the rear end height and bounce, and the SLS adjusts and hold the loaded height.

Have a read through this info on how the rear suspension works on a wagon. - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=271570

Ditto. The rear end needs the SLS as well as the springs to maintain height.
