It may be the same thing.. but typically Chrysler white lithium I believe is available in a spray can for getting down into tight places like that....
|
I just cleaned mine and used waterproof wheelbearing grease for trailers - water seems to be the culprit and I just had to have the bushing brazed in because the PO never lubricated the hinge assembly and allowed the lower mount points to dry out . . .Clean all drains, clean and regrease hinge mounts annually is my advice! Good luck

Getting some oil into the lower hood hinge pins is very important. They are a little hard to see as well. Not doing it can present an interesting repair problem. You can be sorry you did not lubricate them from time to time.
|
So you mean the pins that have the clip on one side and the hings on the other? I think this is where the hinges usually rip out on unlubed cars, right?
|
yes, remove clip and hinge mount at hood and swivel hinge out. Clean bushing well and remove any rust, etc. Use a good thick grease on bushing end and replace clip. Make sure drains are clear and lubricate other joints on hinge with ATF or light oil and you are done -good luck!

Lubriplate. I've been using it on hinges and lock plates for 40 years. My father used it ever since I can remember. Works on all different makes of cars. Jim |
If you'll be lubing the hinges, might as well clean up the hood latch and lube that as well, while the hood is up.
Couldn't hurt to do the linkages too. I use white lithium grease. |
I think ATF is the correct lube for the linkages.
