Transmission mount bracket bolts not coming out
I am at a loss...I ordered and received all the parts I need to fix the B-2 Piston in my 83 300D. Unfortunately, I am stuck at the point where I need to remove the mounting bracket at the back of the transmission, the one that also holds the triangular rubber transmission mount. There are four 18mm bolts holding this bracket to the chassis of the car. I was able to remove one successfully, the rest are just spinning as if the metal clip they screwed into has broken off inside the chassis where I can't get to it.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I can get these remaining three bolts out so I can lower the transmission and get to the B-2 piston? It looks like they screw into a metal clip that has rusted and broken off up in the chassis where I can't get to it and hold the nut or whatever is now spinning around in there freely. Thank you in advance for any help...I am desperate

Open up the slots for access or go thru the floor. The nut on the clip may not have flats for a wrench. Hammer and a chisel should go thru the metal.
I just went thru the floor removing a Saab subframe bolt which was broken into a welded nut. Hole sawed the nut out. Alternatively, if you cut/grind/burn the bolt head off you can push the remaining bolt and clip nut up into the recess. |

You can try to jam a screw driver or something to hold the broken part of the clip. But make sure you get some penetrating on it first. I don't recommend cutting through the opening if that doesn't work. Instead grind the head off as mentioned above. You would be able to remove the broken clips and left over bolts after you get the mount off and replace them new units.

go thru the floor?? yikes! cut em off with a wizz wheel and go to the hardware store to replace the clips and bolts. These clips are very common and come in many sizes. |

I got them out!
Thanks for the help. I got 10 metal cut off disks for my cordless drill and made it work. I went through all of them. It was hard work and took a day, but I was able to grind all the bolts off and the transmission is now dropped. I hope this job gets easier soon

It took a long time as Electric Drill Motors do not turn fast enough to make the best use of Cutoff discs. For others if you have a resonably sized Air Compressor the penumatic tool in the pic will cut through the hardest Steel. When it is on sale at Harbor Freight their version is as cheap as $7 each.

I think you need to go and get a 30 dollar electric angle grinder and a grinding wheel. Would have taken you about 2 minutes to grind all the bolt heads flat and whack them with a punch rather than put that mileage on a slow rpm electric drill.

Now that you have them removed, swing by PNP and grab a few off some wrecks. I have some, but shipping would be more than swinging by PNP.

Careful...
Careful: If you need to remove the transmission mount be very careful that you don't strip that big nut holding it in place (20mm I think...) - I did strip mine and had to give up on the replacement as there is no good way to get to it with an impact wrench which is what it would take to get mine off at this point...

Pry bar.
Put your pry bar, in the future, between the trans crossemember and the floor pan and apply pressure. Hit the bolts with an impact wrench.
