Neutral Safety Switch and Transmission ??

Great forum. '82 300SD, starts (cranks) in Neutral but not in Park, so I assume it is the NSS. First of all, am I right?

Second question: on the parts section, there are two NSS's, for two different transmissions. Is there an easy way to tell which one I have?

Also, will starting it in neutral be an adequate short term solution, or will it quickly degrade to not starting at all?

Thanks.

NSS and Tranny

Mos likely youse be right. The switch is bad.
BUT,first what shape are the Bushings on your shift rods in?

The question about prognosticating the date of total disfunction is beyond
the scope of almost all the Humans on Planet Earth.

IF the Transmission is the original (or an exact replacement) The Mercedes
VIN number is the preferred determinant for parts number selection.

I had that problem and it was an adjustment of the switch itself.
