yeah, the circlip on the pin for the fingers of the gun is simple to remove, then just push out the pin, and pull the fingers. the steel piston glide pops out and each finger is made of two slats of steel. the stamping of the slats leaves a rough edge and it tears the small end of the boots. a little polishing on the grinder and reassembly and perfect function!

Well, nothing's split open yet. They'd better last several years; I'd just as soon never have to do that again. I will if I have to. Hoping I'm lucky and will evade the predictions of the "They look too flimsy to last" sayers.

working with the boots in the winter time is a PAIN! I'm keeping the boots in the house, and warming up the shop before the install next time. MAN it was a pain to get the boots done on the last axle!

awesome!
how did the axle look to you? any critiques for my future rebooting?
my last axle was an annular one, and it was awesome! the thing was powdercoated! it cleaned up REALLY well. I wish I had more of the annulars!
all the axles I have left are homokinetic.

I got several sets of each now, I like them, and I've gotten GREAT feedback from the members who have purchased them.

so far, NOBODY has any problems with the axles, and I'm at year 3 now!

124 and 201's are now getting done. I'm using the flexx boots, but if I can find OE boots, they are also an option.

Anecdotal story on CV joints:

I also own a 2004 Honda CR-V. Right now my son is driving that up at Clemson while his wagon is undergoing major rehab at vstech's.

Before I let him take it up there in August, I knew it needed new CV joints.

I looked at reman axles and was about to buy a set and have vstech help me swap them. However he and I both got real busy so I ended up taking it to the local Honda dealer.

The advisor, knowing that it was an older car, offered remans to save some money. I went for it and told them to go ahead and use them.

Long story short, after 3 sets of reman axles, we ended up going with OE. The vibration was so bad on each set of remans that they never even released the car to me between sets.

John, any W123 re-boots available and if so for how much? Been too scared to ask until now. My boots are crazing so doubt I have another ten years...
