1976 300D (115) Electrical woes
Searched to no avail so thought I'd post.
I replaced the (kaput) headlight rotary switch on this car with a new one. The new one had a slightly different attachment pattern but the same numerical labels so I swapped the wires from the old one to corresponding labeled posts on the new one. Now the second detent (headlights) and the pull-for-foglights features work but nothing else. The brakelights work, the blinkers flash dimly and rapidly (suspect flasher relay here) and the high beams work. However, the standing lights, park lights, tail lights and instrument lights do not work. As an aside, the dome and rear dome don't work nor do the hazard flashers. I don't know what it was like before since the old headlight switch had totally come apart. I am getting ready to retrieve my multimeter from the shop (across town) and test the fuses (I already visually inspected and rotated them in their mounts) and will probably test for power at the sockets since the bulbs look ok. Looking for any advice here. Has anyone seen this particular combination before? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this car? My Clymer and Haynes are both absent this. Thanks in advance!

Update.
After application of a test light and cleaning some bulb bases and sockets I now have everything working except the left side running lights front and rear (well, and the standing lights but I'm not too worried about those right now). There is no power to the front or rear lights on the left side. Is there a junction where the left and right sides split? I am working with a wiring diagram from a 1977 300D which appears to be very similar but I don't know where the location would be for a junction box to split power to the left and right side running lights. Any help appreciated. This is the only thing keeping this car parked right now.
Thanks!

A while back I swapped the switch from a 72 car in to my 76 240D.
I cut the wire harness on the donor car and swapped 1 wire at a time. I am sure this does not help you just putting it out there. good luck
