Accelerator Pedal

Is there an adjustment to the pedal? Mine doesnt reach kickdown switch. Just replaced the linkage(one with the ball) that is attached to the firewall. No other linkage is attached yet. Tried to push the pedal by hand forcefully but it still wont click the kickdown switch.

Assuming there is no binding from dirt or grit under the pedal or floor matt interference, check the kickdown switch itself for sticking. It may be NG.

I can hear the kickdown switch click when i press it. Its just the accelerator bar wont do it. Im thinking there must have been a rubber stop in the accelerator bar that is missing on mine?

I think there is something on the back of the pedal, I will check mine.

Nope, the vertical metal piece that the pedal is attached to [which is connected to the linkage] hits the switch when I floor it.

Are you sure the go pedal isn't broken? I had that problem with my car. As fruitcaskesa noted the pedal should be attached to the metal rod, it shouldn't be able to floop around freely.

I was doing some sleuthing today to diagnose some acceleration issues and I have exactly the same problem -- the bar does not reach the kickdown switch. The switch itself seems to actuate or click manually just fine but the bar is short of the switch when fully depressed. If anyone knows of an adjustment it seems I need one as well.

The bar doesn't touch the switch, the back of the pedal does.

This is my CD, it appears the linkage hits the button.

On my TD it appears that the bar is meant to hit the switch. When fully depressed the bar does not quite touch the switch - less than a 1/4 inch I would say. The switch itself has some travel so overall the bar could be 1/2 inch shy of full travel.

I have some sticky beige goo on the switch that appears to be dripping down from somewhere under the dash. Like some reverted adhesive. It does not seem in any way related but that is the gunk showing on the switch.

Hmm, sorry... I assumed the W123 and W126 actuated in the same way.
