82 300SD clunking on bumps in rear

the thing makes quite a racket over even small bumps.
I will be getting under there today, but I'd really like to have a few things to focus on before hand...
I've replaced the swaybar links recently... lemme know

My first inclination was sway bar links. Your symptoms really sound like the links are bad, but you've replaced them. I'd still check them out since they are so cheap and easy. I'm no help other wise.

I have been chasing down the clunk clunk clunk sound from my 1984 300SD, see posting titled "clunk, clunk, clunk" for more information. At first I thought it might be the CV joints. I replaced the boots and substituted grease for the original oil. Then I thought it was wheel bearings and now my parts supplier says it is the sub frame mounts. Please keep us posted as to what you find and I will do the same. I disconnected the sway bar links and so far no noise but I have not driven it the same distance as before, I am worried about haveing to be towed home as a toad. Best of luck on diagnostics.

To check if this is the sway bar this is a good advice from Bluebird, disconnect it and drive to see if it happen.
The rear frame bushes probably too. I checked everywhere for my clunk and it was the front rear-frame bushes.
Then the front links failed, and got a clunk at the front.
Those are easy to change tho

Mine too,(84 300SD) same clunk on little road imperfections. Coming from rear right side. Will try your suggestions.
