1982 300CD Turbo rear window regulators R&R

1982 300CD Mercedes rear window regulator are hard to find so I’m fixing mine.

Thought I would share as I go through the process...

In the red circle is the weakest link on these rear regulators. As you can see it’s bent past 90 deg. and among other issues has caused the main arm to pass as it lowers, If you see a rear window that can't go all the way down this is likely your problem. I am going to remove both regulators then cut the old tabs off and replace with new tabs made out of steel square tube. Should be pretty easy to accomplish and super strong.

I’ll post new images of the final fixed regulators and steps for the DIY folks.

Sorry for the delay on this, had a couple higher priorities come up . Rear axle replacement, tie rods, shocks, and glow plug R&R, and sunroof motor stuck open. Should all the out of the way this weekend.

Next weekend I will tackle the rear windows again!

I reinforced this same area, just bent in a different place. the problem is that the design tries to overcome a lot of weight and friction from way off to the side, just a tiny bit of friction on the rails and it folds up on itself because of the torque of the motor. I tried to add a balance spring on the front rail which seemed to work best. I will be interested to see if you can make head way on this issue.Seems like everything needs to be spotlessly clean and slippery as well as perfectly aligned to get it to work like the factory designed it.
