1987 300TDT rear seat backrest upholstery/leather removal?
I am trying to install a cargo area roller blind on my 1987 300TDT wagon and I need to remove the rear seat backrest upholstery/leather in order to install some threaded inserts. (The threaded inserts are screwed into the backrest from the cushion side or at the bottom of holes in the exposed white areas shown in the pictures. Since my 1987 300TDT is an early W124 wagon the threaded inserts were not installed at the factory like they are in the later w124 wagons.) The cargo area roller blind mounts use screws that thread into the inserts that are installed in the backrest. I have examined the backrest to determine how to remove the upholstery, but I have not had much luck in removing it. I thought it might be similar to the front seats where a cardboard edge fits into a metal channel on the seat frame, but it is difficult to tell since there is nothing in the shop manual about removing the upholstery/leather from the backrest. I have already tried compressing the backrest cushion/foam to see if the upholstery pops out but I had no luck.
I have attached some picture showing the backrest and a closeup of the corner of the backrest to show how the upholstery is held in the backrest. Does anyone have an idea on how to remove the backrest upholstery/leather from the backrest? Thanks in advance. -Steve
