Can't find the "reverse band adjustment" thread. HELP!
Hey, guys, the wife's 81 300D is not wanting to back up again, or is at least straining. I found a few years ago that the reverse band adjustment bolt is usually the problem, and it worked like a charm when I tried it. There was a pictorial help thread, but after searching for a half hour, I can't find the one that walked me through it last time. Anybody happen to know where I can find it? Thanks! Lee

here's one: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=203131&page=2
seems like most of the action was back around 2-3 years ago if you need to dig further

Yeah, I found that one on the search engine, but it seems like there was one that was step by step, and if I remember correctly, it involves taking a rubber cap off of an electrical connection, then working on the bolt and the keeper nut. And I'll probably remember everything as soon as I get under there and look at it. But I wanted to refresh my memory before I even get it up in the air. (Hate to run in the house and get on the computer with greasy hands). Is it me, or did the search engine on this forum use to do a better job of locating information? Anyway, this stuff sure ain't in the Haynes manual, so I'll probably just get out there and do it. I've got to flush my radiator and a few other things to do to it this time. Thanks anyway, rs899.

I have a 91 420sel that has the 722.7 trans I believe.
It is slow to go into reverse. The only adjustment I can find, is a small (1/4 dia) slotted screw with a lock nut, which is on a small actuator cover at back end passenger side of the trans. No way it one could put 3 ft/lbs on that, it is a turn in till it touches and back out type of screw. Another thing is this is a one piece trans, (no detachable bell housing). I am looking through my various manuals and am yet to find anything. What an I missing. thanks. This sharing information rocks! Edit: Just confirmed that the reverse in my trans uses a clutch pack, not a band. I gues I am on barrowed time. Last edited by OM616; 04-05-2010 at 05:52 PM. |

Some of the older transmissions have a tamper proof bolt; that if removed you can go in and adjust the Reverse Band.
This is not possible on my 84 that also has harsh Reverse shifts.
