New used motor
Would you by a motor from this place ([email protected])? They are going out of business and they have a motor for my 190D for $350.00. The only thing is I cant test the motor to see if it is good, he says it is good. The motor has 200,000 miles and the front timing cover he sold to someone else. Would you take a chance like this?

Manchester,Tennesee ?
Maybe, someone lives nearby?
Not without having someone responsible and disinterested look at it first. [Although,It now appears more than one business with that name. ???] http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=deals%40autopartsunlimited.com&btnG=Google+Search

Wreckers sell both good and bad engines. I preffer to buy one out of a running wreck if possible. I reallly want to examine it running . Too much work and agrivation otherwise sometimes. As you are well aware some unethical sellers will sell basically a boat anchor as a good engine. If you are good at evaluating another persons character sometimes that will allow a purchase of an engine basically on the ground. I have to wonder why he is closing up shop. A good clean well run operation usually grows with time. All it takes is running above and beyond what people expect. That gives you continious repeat business and good word of mouth. Those operations are well worth seeking out. I have to know an operation pretty well to buy a used engine from them if on the ground. Too much risk for my tastes. Or make an offer you are comforatable with. You could prevail. Remember it is about the equivelant of rolling dice. Would you part off a timing cover from a really good engine? I would tend to keep it intact for resale. Some things come down to a pure gamble on occasion. |

When I replaced my 617 engine, it took three tries to get a good used one. Junkyard engines are a crap shoot.

when some one is closing down anything decent is long gone. If he doesnt sell the motor it will go with the remainder of his junk to the scrap metal dealer. He has already started to part the motor, no one does that to a good motor. Best you keep looking. The upgrade idea has merit!!
