'86 190d tach help (inop)
Yes I searched.
My tach is inop. I was looking for two possible components. Tach amp and tach relay (with the fuse on top). I found niether, not sure which mine has, or both? The fuse panel appears to be missing a relay. Perhapse this is where the tach relay should be? Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

The tach signal passes through a relay that is located behind the battery. Check this thread for some wiring diagrams, pictures of components, etc.

found my OVP relay, it is mounted behind a plastic cover between the firewall and the battery. Fuse was ok. Possibly looking at the engine speed sensor, a/c control relay, cluster or wiring. Is there a place I can tap in to the speed sensor to check the signal?

okay, searched lots of posts, lots of schematics. The rpm sensor signal is tapped by several components, such as the a/c control relay, cluster, diagnostic connector, but do not go through it. If I am reading the schamtic right, the rpm sensor feeds the idle speed / EGR control unit which has an rpm output (green / yellow) sent off to various components, such as diagnostic connector pin 1. This is a single wire output. I am assuming I check this to ground? pin 2.
obviously with test lead extentions, hood closed, driving, etc. |
