Question Windows not working...

So none of my windows will roll down now... Sounds like a burnt fuse, but I've heard that the fuses in this model are paired so that doesn't make sense... I'm checking the fuses but I'd like to know if there's something else that could've caused all of my windows to stop working. All else works just fine.

Let us know what happens next.
Be sure to completely remove the fuses to check 'em.

Should be a fuse map on the underside of your fuse box cover.

Yes, I found that the Fuse looked goof but the Tip of the fuse had corroded away.

I would try taking apart and cleaning the switches. They have little contacts that get burned or get filled with crap.

I have not read of anyone having to replace it but there is also a Power Window Relay somewhere.

If i remember correctly half the windows are fused on a different circuit. I wouldn't put it past the switch's as they have a very high failure rate at this age. Im not sure but the windows may actually connect to a relay and not directly to the switches (im guessing if the switches took the full current the contact pads would wear away fast) so try switching a few silver ice cube relays around and see if that helps.

Not sure on the 300SD, but on the W123 chassis there is a seperate ice cube relay for the windows. On the W123, for some reason it is behind the instrument cluster and not with all the others under the hood.

I did not think of it but when I had the Switches out I could have drilled a Drain Hole in the bottom.

When I first bought my Volvo some of the Switches stopped working and what I found was they were packed with Cigarette ash from the PO.

I appreciate all your replies guys!
So, I checked the fuse box and tested every fuse and they're all working just fine. Both switches were replaced last year so I don't think it's the switches... however, today I had also troubles making the climate control to work, so I turned off the car, popped the hood open, popped the fuse box open, checked again the fuses, didn't see anything wrong, went back into the car and now everything is working just fine... closed the fuse box, closed the hood, went to do my errands with all windows working, blower working fine... It's gotta be some sort of loose contact somewhere, I think. Gotta be at a point where current for the windows AND the blower motor is supplied, or maybe at the ground connection, but I'm not sure where this is... Any suggestions?

Yeppers... When I replaced the switches last year I opened the old ones to see how they work and those little balls sure are slippery... And my switches looked just like yours... I thought I'd find dead animals inside...

There was a Wire that is soldered to the Buss Bar between the Fuses. On mine I had it come unsoldered; it also looked as if it was OK till I pulled on it.
If whey you checked the Fuses you pulled them out or you rotated them you may have restored some metal to metal to conatact on the tips of the Fuse.

try taking out the fuses and cleaning the contacts and fuses with sand paper. The fuse holders on these cars are a dissimilar metal to the fuse so they have corrosion problems.

It was a corrosion problem alright... Should've seen it before. The old fuse was doing its job okay, I think, but it was pretty black and corroded, along with the fuse contacts, so a bit of 120 grade sandpaper and a new fuse for good measure did the job. Thanks guys!

Your front left and rear right are paired on a circuit, as are the other two. if the window across diagonally is working it isn't the fuse. I recently was having trouble with picky windows and just replaced the relay (one of the silver boxes inside your fuse box) and it fixed two of the windows.

Other possibilities include the following. Not likely, but i've heard that if you open the door and the wires are exposed (not covered by the black rubber anymore which connects the door and the rest of the car), you may have a short, but I would think it would also throw a fuse.

You could also listen to see you you hear a motor turning inside the door, if you hear it, you may need a regulator. If not, you could also test the motor. I've put two sets of window motors on the right side of my SD, so i don't think it's all that uncommon.

Let us know how it goes!

It is this sort of little detailed stuff that causes some of the hardest to solve problem.
Think about what would have happend if you had to take your Car to a Mechanic and the cost.
