Do the mercedes cd manuals contain all the information in the basic paper manuals? I have a non mercedes company cd and it was hit and miss from ebay. Twenty seven dollars is a pretty good deal if they do.

If the Mercedes Classic Center has the same thing it is $19.99 + $7 shipping.
At the beginning of 2009 a close to complete set of paper manuals sold for around $360 something on eBay and that did not include the shipping. And it is not normal for a near complete set to be sold.

Despite the complaints about the pics not being clear and not always being easy to find the info on the CDs; the CD sets cover 99% of the whole Car.

Before I new that the MB Classic Center sold them I bought the 123 CD Manual set from Mercedes Manuals at $53. And, mine CD set works OK.

Is that a paper book or just a cd set?

The CD manual sets from the Classic Center are $19.99+$7 shipping.
The CD manual sets from Mercedes Manuals are as advertised + shipping.

The $360 is what a USED set of (books) Manuals that about equal what is on the CDs sold for.

The Books are no longer printed.

I would hope the technical quality is much better than the official MB CD set.

Any more input from those who have actually used this set ?

Besides haveing the 2 Volume Chassie Manual and the 617.952 Engine Manual Books I have the same on the CD set I bought from Mercedes Manuals.
I also have other books: Haynes, Chilton, Mitchelle (imported car manual) and even a Mithchelles CD imported car manual.
As well I have 2 of the big Chilton imported car manuals.

I copied the CD Set to my Hard Drive and that is what I use the most.

The poor technical quality that you are speaking of it that the pics on the CD cannot be enlarged much without loosing the quality. The relaity is that the pic in the Mercedes Books are not that much better.

I bought the Mercedes Books partly because I was curious to see what the differance is between the CD and the Books. What I found is that with a few exceptions that are the same.
In some area like looking at a wiring diagram the book is better bcause you can fold out the digram in one piece and it is easier to follow.

The main thing that the CD set has is it is a big bang for your dollars as far as the shear volume of information offered (it has the 2 Volume Chassie info, the Engine Manual info, the Climatic Control info, Electrical inf and a generic owners manual,). Some Examples: There is instructions on how to rebuild all of the types of Vacuum Pumps; this is info you will not find in any other manual.
My 123 CD Manual also covers 5 mercedes Models ,240D,280E,280CE,300D, 300TD, and 300CD. So if you also have a gass 123 it is covered.

Yesterday I started the above thread not realizing there was one underway. I followed Diesel's prompt which took me into mercedesmanuals.com but the disc (a DVD) I need for the '99 E300td is out of stock and if I'm not mistaken has been since last summer when I tried to order it? At that time, I bought one off Ebay which didn't work when it arrived, so I bought Peter Russek's Pocket Mechanic Manual and subscribed to AllData, neither of which are all that complete.

As covered above, "Has anyone subscribed to the Mercedes StarTek Info site for the 24hr plan and down loaded what they need? Assume one could do that?"

I woul like to hear more about info that can be downloaded also.

Apparently what is in the future is that none of these manuals or manuals for other Cars will be around on CD or DVD. It looks like they want you to subscribe to services rather than sell you the info outright.

Many have wondered what a Complete Set (maybe this is a complete set) of Printed 123, 617.52 manuals would sell for. The below sold on Ebay for $303.62 for the lot.
Description from the e Bay ad:
"Complete set of genuine Mercedes-Benz factory service manuals. Includes Chassis and Body Series 123 volume 1, Chassis and Body Series 123 volume 2, Heating Air Conditioning and Climate Control Model 123, Engine Service Manual Turbo Diesel 617.95, Electrical Trouble Shooting Manual 123 '82 on. Plus, Illustrated Parts Catalog.
This is ALL five service books that were made for the 300D, plus the illustrated parts book, (shows exploded views of all parts). I bought these from Mercedes-Benz for my car and never used them.
They are still in the original box as shipped from factory. These books will cover the 1982 to 1985 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel.
These books are now out of print and rare. If you have a classic 300D this is a must have set."

I agree. Hopefully somebody can provide more info on the possibility of downloading from StarTek.

If you do a google search for free online Mercedes Manuals you may turn up a site that has it. However, it is going to be in a compressed format like .rar or something like that. I do not know much about that sort of stuff so I have never tried to download anything.

Has anyone actually subscribed to Star Tekinfo and if so for how long and how did it work? Were you able to easily download and/or print the info? I've got a '99 E300TD but have not been able to buy a good shop manual for it, thus considering a subscription.

thanks

You get pretty good information, although the pictures don't print well. They are more suited for screen use only.

But at $18/day/repair I don't know if it's worth it.

ADD:Actually I don't know much about the images from StarTek as I've been using the classic part of the program WIS-net. If you PM me before midnight EST tonight I'll open up StarTek with your VIN.

After all kinds of research to locate a good shop manual, print or electronic, to no avail, on my ’99 E300TD, I just learned that a “DVD Tech Overview” is available (needs to be ordered) through my local MB dlr? Their parts guy says it’s the same type of detailed repair info that their techs work with, called Net Star. The list on it is $170.

Thoughts/comments please

Thanks
Bill
