Bad vibes at low RPMs 1984 300D
So all of a sudden I have terrible vibrations when at idle and low RPMs. Seems like a possible motor mount? Also vibrates like the motor is trying to crawl through the hood when in reverse. In D after the RPMs pick up, it feels relatively normal though going over bumps causes the motor to shake the whole vehicle.
Any bright ideas?

I have a similar problem in my 85 300D. I think it is motor mounts for mine. When I'm idling, the headlights, radiator, hood, everything, are vibrating intensely. It's noisy and uncomfortable. Nobody wants to ride in my car right now.
I did a valve adjustment and that has improved the idle, but the vibration remains. When I'm driving down the road it feels 100% normal. It's only vibrating at idle. This is annoying whenever I come to a stop sign. If I do replace the motor mounts soon and it takes care of the problem I'll let you know. Good luck! Keep us posted if you find a solution.

If it is the Motor Mounts be careful as some have had the Power Steering Belt cut through one of the Oil Cooler lines and one Member had an Engine Fail due to the loss of Oil Pressure; due to the Drivers Side (US models) Motor Mount being collasped.
Also don't forget about the Transmission Mount.
