Question on copper washers in replacement fuel pump kit

I just removed the fuel pump from my '87 300SDL - was easy just as was suggested.

I'm looking at a new pump assembly here:
http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1987-Mercedes--Benz-300sdl-Diesel--Injection&yearid=1987%40%401987&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6213%3AMBC%7C1512%3AED%7C10000100%40%40300SDL&catid=240706%40%40Diesel+Injection&subcatid=240722@@Primer+Pump+Assembly&mode=PA

... help me understand plz where these copper washers are supposed to go?! I've got the old unit in my hand, I was very careful while removing it from the car and I have yet to see similar copper washers where I removed the old fuel pump, so where do these new coppers washers supposed to go?

James

they must be for the banjo bolts

I don't recall that many washers of the same size when a friend rebuilt one.

nice of them to add that to the kit... but kinda strange at the same time.

Kits are sometimes made to cover severl different applications.

Just replace the Copper washers that you remove with the same sized ones from the kit. Take some digital pics of taking apart the pump for yourself so you can remember how everthing came apart and also to post hear in this thead so others can see how to do the job.

THere in lies the problem... I have found no copper washers during the pump removal. I've removed the two nuts and spring washers holding the pump against the IP housing. I loosened and removed the fuel line on top (compression fitting) and fuel hose on the bottom. The pump came right off - I removed it gently observing if there is anything that resembles copper washers... but nada...

I guess the only explanation may be the banjo bolts... just seems strange to me (misleading)...

MercFan,

I have replaced a fuel pump on my W123. It came with Copper washers as well....

The washers on the original equipment for W123 are *aluminum*. See any aluminum washers kicking around?

The washers go between the fittings that the fuel hoses attach to and the pump body itself (at least on a 616/617).

Mercedes has replaced all aluminum fuel system crush washers with copper ones, at least on the W123. I suspect something similar going on.

Negative, I didn't see ANY flat washers: copper, aluminum or steel... the nuts holding the pump to the IP have had spring washers under them but that's it - it was only two of them and they look much smaller than the four in the pic...

I just don't see where they would go on OEM603... I'll check out under the hood of my 617 and see if I see any washers on it. thx-
