Best head gasket for an om602...?

What is the best head gasket to buy for an om602.

Do I check out a parts store or is there an on-line site I can check out?

Thanks!

A Mercedes head gasket purchased at this site worked for me.

Thank you very much!

The oil passage blew on #1 cylinder....

Should I have the head surfaced and gone through or is it not necessary?

Thanks- Jason

The 602 heads aren't known for cracking like the early 603 heads. I don't think I would pay to have it checked unless you have a friend who has a machine shop. Maybe someone that has installed a new gasket on a 602 engine will weigh in on that.

Exactly the same, except for the one extra cylinder and corresponding hardware.

I asked around, did research, and settled on a Victor Reinz set. Seems to be pretty high quality with reinforcements in all the critical areas, etc. Got it from Phil. Luckily my replacement job went pretty smoothly, no broken head bolts but I did break a couple of other bolts and had the normal helluva time with the guide pin removal. I went ahead and splurged on getting the head totally rebuilt courtesy of Metric Motors. New lifters, valves, the whole nine yards. $1000 but worth it. Runs better now than ever! Also, maybe I got lucky, but dropped the chain and let it go slack, but didn't have any problems. Maybe that's not critical on the 602? I had it at TDC before I started and then just lined everything back up where it was: camshaft mark with the mark on the bearing cap, sprocket only goes on one way so no problem there, and then chain back on the sprocket where it came off lining up the marks I made on the chain link and sprocket. Long job but worth it for the personal satisfaction and getting to know that engine inside and out...literally. OM602 is a great engine, imho.

I let my chain go slack also, no problems.

I also went with Victor Reinz set from *********.com

I got the head gasket set, all new head bolts, top chain guide and a new glow plug all for $150 to my door in two days!
