'82 240D Electric Fan?
I am not the original owner of my 240D. It has an electric fan on the front of the radiator. Is this stock? I'm trying to figure out if it even works because I've never seen it running.
The engine temperature on my 240D runs very high when the A/C is on so I'm looking to increase the cooling on engine.

The fan is stock. It only comes on when the temperature sensor on the A/C drier gets up to a certain temperature. To check it, just unhook the two-prong conenector on the lower driver's side of the radiator and hook +12V to one pin and -12V to the other. You can also bypass the sensor on the drier, but I don't remember if the A/C needs to be on (ignition switch does need to be).

It's also possible to wire the fan to always be on when the key is in the run position. A PO did this on my 240D. As an experiment, I unlplugged it and found my coolant temps stayed reasonable without it, so I left it that way. I also never had working AC on that car.
It's not a bad idea to make sure your temperature guage is giving you accurate readings. An IR thermometer works great for that and prices on them have gotten quite reasonable.
