change fuel filter, now won't start

:confused:I have a 92 300 SD Did a diesel purge, was running excelent during the porcess, then replace the fuel filters and tried to started and it won't start. Does 92 SD have to prime in order to fillout the fuel filters? Please advise

Did you fill the new secondary fuel filter with fuel? Your engine will self-prime eventually but pre-filling the filter makes the process go much faster. There are meany threads on this subject here, use the search function.

uh, if you put on dry filters, its' gonna be a lonnnnnnnnng time before you will be able to start the car. it may even cause problems with the IP.
I'd pull the spin on filter, and fill it with fresh diesel or Diesel purge/power service, etc. and then leave the top bolt a tad loose, and crank again. when fuel spurts out the bolt, tighten it down, and then hold the accelerator to the floor, and crank your starter until it fires.

It did finnaly started, but/////

I did pull ount the secondary filter and top it poff with diesel purge. Now I have a problem of running diesel at all time. Please help:confused:

ok, so now it won't shut off?
you popped the vacuum line off the IP. go put it back.

when i change the fuel filter i use WD 40 to get the engine started. I spray it into the air filter housing and at the same time have someone else crank the motor.

rummur 05-15-2010 01:46 AM

why wd40?

turbobenz 05-15-2010 01:49 AM

wouldnt wd40 compression ignite before TDC and potentially bend a rod?

Whenever I replace the spin on's I always fill them with ATF or motor oil or veggie oil from the kitchen

Basstrip 05-15-2010 04:23 AM

I seen that before

I saw a truck driver spraying WD40 t get the engine start. But you make an interesting point on possible rod bend.

Is this hose is brown? is hook up close to the secondary fuel filter?

The more I think about it though I wonder if its really an issue. Lets say it does compression ignite before TDC, and the piston compresses it further, straining the rod. Is this force even remotely comparable to the force being exerted on the rods during WOT?

There was a discussion on here about ether damaging prechambers when used on an IDI engine, but ethers a completely different animal
