removing moulding on pillar

This is the plastic piece held in with 3 stainless sheet metal screws and is part of the moulding that runs the length of the rain gutter. Does the plastic piece pull out by itself? Or does the entire rain gutter moulding have to come off as one piece? Thanks!

are you talking about the front windshield rubber? on my 83TD the pass side was shrunk, and I pulled it off. then noticed the screws, and am looking for a replacement piece. I'd think it is separate from the gutter molding.

It's the rubber or plasctic piece that's about 15" long by the door pillar along the windshiels. I found the following info copied below. Can someone verify or add to the procedure?

"The gutter trim is pinched on and requires the most care and patience. The top rubber part should not be separated from the aluminum pinch part. Start by removing three screws along the windshield. Use two thin flathead screwdrivers to squeeze in and lift up with out bending the aluminum. Leapfrog the screwdrivers about two inches at a time. When you have this long piece off, you can easily remove the plastic "ear" that's about 15 inches long and has three reuseable clips. It will be dirty and faded. Wash it and paint it semi-flat black. To remove the funny looking swirl piece, carefully pry out the piece that is painted. Start with the narrow front end and separate it toward the rear. Once this small painted piece is off, you will see two screws. I had these pieces painted separately."

I'd like to add that I want to removed this piece to provide more clearance for the intall of the aluminum trim piece in the winshield seal, which was bent and botched up by Safelite. I pull a good trim off my 240D parts car and want to make sure it goes in smoothly the second time around.

Isn't the winshield trim supposed to be put on the rubber seal and windshield before the W/S gets installed?

You may end up cracking the new W/S or bending the replacement trim.

I don't know I didn't install the windshield. You asking me or telling me? What does the FSM say to do?
