Fuel leak at air vent bell

I went out to my car last night and discovered a sizable leak of diesel fuel on the pavement. I moved the car and got a look under and it appeared that the air vent was dripping fuel very slightly from what looked like a small diaphragm.

Is a common leak point? I did just fill up my car, but I've never seen this happen before.

How about some pics?
Not read of this one before so I will just thorw out some ideas. How about some pics?

If it is the terminal end of the Fue Tank Vent you would think that the tank would some how have to be over filled for it to get up into the Fuel Tank Vent or some sort of other pressure build up inside of the tank is pushing the fuel up there.

Or the leak is coming from the Tubing from the Fuel Tank too the front of the Car and it is leaking onto the Terminal end of the Vent.

If this is a Station Wagon the venting system is different and I cannot comment on that.

I have a sedan so you are correct in your guess.

Oddly enough last night I drove the car and there was no leak on the pavement. It was drizzling the whole day, but the ground underneath was dry and clean.

When I touched the diaphragm it was wet and dirty with diesel. The line was dry when I followed it back to the tank since I was thinking that as well.

I'll take a picture after work. I don't have any pressure build up problems in my car and the vent is clear since I shot some compressed air into the line and I don't have a whoosh when I take the cap off.

Happened to get under the back of my wagon tonight and noticed a similar situation.

The passenger side of my tank had some fuel residue oozing down. Nothing major and I never see my wagon mark its territory.

So I start poking around and see a braided fuel line leading off that same side of the tank, back through the frame and towards the filler neck. Open the side compartment and see that hose angle into the side of the filler neck. This should not be confused with the rubber hose that connects the drain inside the filler door to under the car.

Anyhow, that line has some major seepage. I know the supply and return lines are new and good. Kind of miffed why the mechanic I had work on this when I first bought it didn't replace it.

I've no problems dropping the tank myself. But does anyone know the purpose of this line? Any idea how much length of hose I should have on hand before I R&R?
