Can I pound on the Aluminum Oil pan?
I purchased a Futaba (sp?) drain valve but I am having trouble putting it on.
The oil pan has a slight rise that keeps me from completely screwing in the new oil drain valve. I'd like to put it on. Is there a safe way to pound on the aluminum pan without cracking it? It just has to 'give' or dent about a quarter inch.

The oil pans in these cars have networks of strengthening ribs and oil channels. I'd be scared to do any "pounding" to re-shape them.
The only way I'd feel safe doing it would be to remove the pan, heat it with a torch and gently bent it. Probably too much trouble for what you're trying to accomplish. Is it possible to put in an extension for the valve?

On a side note, I love using these valves. When installed correctly you NEVER have to worry about dropping the drain plug, crush washers, whatever. They make draining oil simple and clean. You can even attach a length of hose to it so you can point the oil wherever you need to.
