I think it's normal for the tail light to turn off when the brakes come on, fixing the brake light is an issue, check with a voltmeter, see if you have power at the brake light fixture with the pedal pressed. start looking for a broken wire.

Bad Ground
There is a bad ground and the running light is grounding through the brake light filament. When you apply power to the brake light there is power coming from both ends with no where to go and neither bulb lights.

Just a thought - I kept burning out the LR tail bulb - replace it every 4-6 months... Whatever - turns out the fix: The bayonet socket had slowly over time "widened" itself out - cleaning, etc, didn't fix the problem, but gently squeezing the socket to narrow it (with the bulb out - squeeze a little - try the bulb - squeeze more, etc) until the bulb fit snuggly solved the issue.
Granted, my issue was a little different, but might be something to check/try. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that a loose bulb/socket could cause a bulb to burn out prematurely - but apparently has to do with heat generated by gentle arcing... Anyway - just something to check... G |

No. Tailights stay on when brake light energizes. It's a ground issue. No current flow. Jim
