1992 300d need some quick info before my owners and Repair manual come in

Ok just bought a 1992 300d with 200,000miles. I have some house keeping to do on the car this weekend and need some advice.
Here is what i plan to do friday night:
-new air filter
-oil filter
-Oil change
-New screw on fuel filter and inlines
-tranny fluid
-Tranny filter
-New headlight wipers.

Here are my questions:
-*What else should i do maintnance wise?*
-What oil weight should be used in this car?
-Does this car have a cabin filter or anything like that?
-when should my headlight wipers be on?
PS: im going after school tommorow to order all of this, so i may not be able to check this untill 3...

Here are some other issues that will be addressed before long:
-A/c works only when i manualy ground some switch down by the compressor on the fender(again need my manual)
-Car has no radio antenna
-Only one headlight wiper works
-Headlight wipers come on when i turn my lights on(I may be wrong but i would assume they only come on when the wipers are on??)
-Injection pump has a small leak around delivery valves, and possible a front pannel.
-TIRES...lol
Any insight would be great...
thanks
zach

  • Differential fluid should be checked/changed at some point
  • 15W40 oil, get it at Walmart, I use Delvac 1300
  • NAPA has good filters for our 602.962 engines
  • The cabin filters came in 94 or 95 I think
  • Can't help you on the headlight wipers

antennas are expensive new, parts car is advisable. I have a few bases that need masts.
what are you grounding to get the compressor to come on. your car could be low on freon, you should check pressures before monkeying with wires. delivery o-rings are available, but a special socket is needed to change them $50ish. oil leaks can be fixed with gasket kits found here on the buy parts tab. call roy.
I am also no help on the wipers...

If your having problems with the turbo check out gsxr post on swapping to a pressure regulated setup. Here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=212097

The wipers clean your headlights when it's raining and you've got some muddy water coming from the tires of that dirty old truck in front of you... but they're mostly for looks

Personally I would use a 5w40 oil. All my cars get some brand of 5w40.

I am looking into a parts car right now, but the funds are still recouperating after this purchase. Ill let you know more about the compressor later as my father is a heating and cooling guy and hes working on that right now, but i do know that the charge is good, and is does hold a charge for at least 4 days now... And yes i have found these gaskets.

I have been exploreing this for two weeks before i bought the car, and once eevrything else is tip top then its more than likely gonna happen...

If they are just for looks I love them! But as of now only one works, and it doesnt come on with the wipers, only when I turn the headlight switch on. Which happens alot, and it seems abusive on the wiperblade to be moving across a dry surface alot...

Im probly gonna go with whats out in the shop as we always have a case of diesel oil as we are starting to have al diesel vehicles...

Doesn't it have a separate switch somewhere? Do you have your owner's manual? they shouldn't come on with the light switch... your owner's manual should have instructions on how to operate the light wipers.

I think the headlight wipers only come on when you use the main wiper/washer fluid for the windshield. You know, when the fluid squirts out and then the wiper goes back and forth a few times. Headlight wipers do the same thing. At least that's the way my 560SEL and '87 300D work.

With the headlamps on, and you hit the windshield washers, the headlamp washers will spray / wipers will wipe then time out. No other time.

Some of us are partial to Mobil 1 ATF, but anything that's got Dexron/Mercon III approval will do.

Also, I notice that you didn't ask about your differential fluid. You should use SAE 90 or a 85W-90 hypoid gear oil in the differential. And be sure to undo the fill plug before you try the drain plug. If you drain the fluid first and then find that the fill plug cannot be removed, you'll find yourself up the creek without a paddle.
