trans ?

Hi everyone its been a while since ive been on here finally got my 86 190D on the road its been running great for about two months now. Today on my way to work i went to shift from 1st to 2nd and the shifter came back but the trans stayed in first. i removed the cover and top assembly from insde tomorrow morning i plan i getting under it. does anyone have a blow up of the linkage or know of any common issues any help or input would be great thanks

Sounds like a broken shift rail. I did that twice on my Toyota, i was a bit rough on that little truck.
