240D Down pipe-manifold connection

Hi all,

I now have a 240D engine with correct manifold, correct exhaust down pipe but no "Down Pipe Manifold Connection Bracket" as seen here.

I'm not sure which type I need but I'm sure can make one of them fit. Does anyone know where I can get one from? or even part numbers?.

Many Thanks in advance.
Brett

You'll have to check whether the manifold has an 'Inner Ball' -or socket, or an 'external ball' or taper to accept the down-pipe...

Do you have the right down-pipe for that manifold...?

Hi Alastair,

I have the type 1 (first image) manifold and what looks like the correct downpipe. Its just the flanged bracket I am missing. On closer inspection it looks like the bracket is quite simple, maybe something I could manufacture from st/st if all else fails.

Type 1 seems the easiest to make a bracket for, alternatively maybe a trip down the kwik-fit centres locally may turn up summit off an old system...

I'll have a look at that exhaust-system I have in the garage, and measure across the bolt-holes, see if a 300D is same size for you. 80mm you reckon??

--If so, and you're stuck, I can drop off that bracket and down-pipe from the 'retired' 300D, as the complete system in the garage is near new and destined for my 280TE/300D conversion....

Hey, Thats a great alternative....

Stainless you reckon! fit some A2 S-steel bolts and nuts, and you have a winner...!

So, did you find a complete engine or just a manifold and exhaust-system?

I found a manifold, after quite a bit of investigation and help from yourself and others I worked out that if I fitted the w123 240D manifold I could then fit a standard diesel downpipe. I did see an engine on fleebay but though I would be patient. Although I havnt driven the car for nearly 3 weeks now and the sun is out.

Ill post some pictures of what my final solution is.
