oil pressure gauge wont drop
I'm having oil pressure gauge problems. So I cleaned up the contacts and now when when I shut off the engine, the gauge stays on 3 bar until I turn it back on, when it drops to 0. It then goes back up upon start up. Otherwise it seems pretty ok-- stays above 2 bar when warmed up. But why stay up at 3 bar on shut off? This is an electrical system btw. I wonder if I have something reversed somewhere.

The 1985 190D (W201?) has an electric oil pressure gauge, I think. It sounds to me like the sender is sticking. I don't think it's repairable, you'll have to buy a new one.

I hadndt thought of that. Its not easy to get to, but the good news is that I have another engine with a good sending unit. I will say that driving with "0" on the oil gauge is a little nerve wracking, if not downright stupid!

Followup on oil gauge not working: Changed sensor with known good sensor. Symptoms continued until I changed to synthetic oil, and now it works as it should. I guess it was clogged somewhere. IT took a few weeks to settle down after the oil change.
