2RS it is. Does anyone have a simple step by step / write up on the bearing replacement? Drilling/riveting was noted but I'm not sure if I understand where this comes into play.

Use this thread, the pictures and the link on the first page as a Guide (that is what I did). It is REALLY easy.

Just remember about the big nut on the front of the fan. Right is loose and Left is tight.

Posts 1-3 of this thread should be reasonably relevant to the W201 fan. The bearing retainer was originally spot welded in place. The welds need to be drilled out and replaced with rivets or screws.

Alright bringing up an old thread here. My 201 fans finally kicked it sometime last month or so. I thought it was the wiring/relay I installed but I felt the fans and they're pretty firm.

I just wanted to verify the bearing once again: SKF 6001-2RS ?

SKF 6001-2RS Ball Bearings, 6001-2RS1 Bearing, 12x28x8

Edit: It turns out my electrical connections were corroded. I had bypassed the low-speed resistor (it caught fire once) with a relay and the connections to the relay and at each fan (factory connections) had been caked with corrosion. I replaced the single relay with a two units and taped up everything nicely. I think I'll still replace the bearings though, fans are a bit scratchy.

According to the prior posters... .6001-2RS is the right bearing. Do not get the Z version.

Ebay seems to be a good choice to find the right bearing too. A quick search there comes up with several sellers at under $3 each.

I didnt think of Ebay.. I did come across a good deal, 10 6001-2RS bearings for about $10 shipped. I figure I've got 2 fans on my 201, one on each 126.. so I'll have plenty.

Follow the wire from the fan, there is a flat plug. Iam not under the car at the moment, but as I remember there is a metal clip that holds the plug that is attached to the body.

Not sure if you look up from below the L/F head light or from the top looking down behind the headlight with the hood open.

W124 diesel running hot

Hi. I hope that I'm in the right space. I have a 93 w124 diesel. Re cento it has been running hot. The coolant level is good. No gross chatter at the water pump I changed the fan clutch as the old one spu easily with engine off

Now under load the temp climbs to about 100. Out side temp about 32 degrees F.
If the car idles, temp falls closer to 80
The heater works well lots of heat so I thought the thermostat was ok
I touched the coolant after driving and the coolant felt warm bu not hot?
The radiator cap does not appear to be leaking
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks. Steve

The same thermostat that is allowing for "great heat" could be responsible for your high engine temps. "Great heat" does not ensure that your thermostat is performing properly.
