Ignition lock re-assembly problem-w123 1983 300d

I just removed the old and tired lock assembly and i am ready to install new one, but i am having a bit of a hard time getting the black metal piece that screws in back in, it is very hard, i may be inserting the whole thing in wrong.
Kind of lost and clueless here, any help most loved.
I did this before on another late w123 and it screwd out and back in effortlessly, Giant paper clip in place and key to accessory position, just to hard to turn, is it possible thread on assembly is bad?
Mayday mayday, i am driving around with a pair of pliers.

It screws on counter-clockwise. Is it screwing on and then getting stuck halfway down? If it screws close to the end and then doesn't want to move any more, then try to remove the paperclip and jiggle the black piece until it locks and is assembled.

Also, if you take the black cover out with the lock, then you can see if the little lock is fully depressed. It's possible that the little lock is depressed but not completely, so it's getting stuck on re-assembly.

Hope that helps. Best of luck, you'll figure it out!
