OM617 Oil filter container stripped stud solution
So i overtightened the stud on the oil filter container lid.
I found a 14mm bolt that was longer than the stud with the intention of pushing it through the hole and putting a nut on top of it. I found out that the hole is about twice the length of the stud. So i took the 14mm bolt and turned it in so that the head rests on top of the lid and the threads go into the filter housing. I had read about people pushing the bolt through and putting a nut on top, but since there was so much area not ripped up by the stud i found it unnecessary and potentially very difficult since one would have to cut threads into the aluminum from the bottom side and its a tight fit. Hope this helps people in my situation. BTW If you haven't ruined the stud threads yet, make sure the gasket is on the lid before you try to tighten it some more to fix the leak |
