OM606.910 INJECTION PUMP NOISE
Anyone out there with a higher time E300D or TD that's notice louder than previously normal operation noise from their injection pump?
If so, what was your outcome from any repair action?

Can you elaborate on what type of noise it is and what leads you to believe it's the IP?
Is it possible that it's the cam chain, tensioner or vacuum pump cam in the front of the pump? These pumps are pretty simple, mechanically speaking, compared to an engine with mech. injection..

What fuel diet has your IP been fed?
The IP almost always outlast the engine unless someone fiddles with them, or screws up the torque on the DV seals. No leaky DV's I pressume? Same noise present in the fuel lines and inj's too? I'd be more inclined to look at the chain for stretch and sprockets for wear before condemning the IP.

Always good petrol based diesel, now low sulfur--No futzers either. DV seals are new a year ago, noise showed up about a month back. I'm keenly aware of the pump longevity as well, hence the post, kind of a stump the band right now.
Chains fine, looked at it a while back when i did injectors. Wrong noise for that and in wrong place. It's almost like something is loose in the pump-- |

Wonder if one of the shaft bearings is going out in the injection pump. They are roller or needle bearings I would think. Clattery might indicate excess play in the shaft.
Asking a good pump shop for an opinion may be worth the time to do it. |

As barry123400 said; sometimes the Bearings go bad. However, this seldom happens.
The only way to know for sure is to take the IP apart and look.

Those with experience, talk to me about a bad DV--engine runs smooth through entire RPM range idle to WOT.
