Aftermarket speedometer.

I've fixed speedometer a few times just tied of the odometer stopping. Now speedometer quit. Needs new gears this time. Using GPS for speedometer.

I'm considering fitting the VDO 437152 speedometer in the cluster by removing the factory speedometer guts. I'm going to go to a 5spd soon ( have everything but no time at the moment) so i think the factory speedo won't be accurate any more after 5spd install.

Keep us posted...my 300e's speedo is massively inaccurate and have considered replacing some of the guages as part of my turbo install.

I also have a gps as a speedo. I'm looking at some after market gauges with an electric speedo. All guages also come with sending units. Check out the link: http://www.dolphingauges.com/index.html

But, before I go spending $$$ on gauges I have a few other things to fix first; like some a/c. It was only 103 today.

Not all the aftermarket speedometers come with sending units- I've been trying to find one that will work for me for the past couple months. Auto Meter makes a couple that come with senders, but all the VDOs I've seen you had to buy the sender separately for about another $100.

Why not fix it right and have new gears put in and have it recalibrated for the 5 speed transmission? I can tell you that when it comes to resale, that out of place, aftermarket speedometer is probably going to turn some people off.

My current situation I foresee me running this until its dead so putting an after market speedometer makes sense. I've had several non-MB cars past 250,000 miles and this one is by far the best car with just over 200,000. I was a mechanic for a few years so wrenching is enjoyable now on my own stuff.
